Gobustan is the famous and ancient place in Azerbaijan. Gobustan located 66 km distance from Baku. Gobustan State Reserve established in 1966. Gobustan State Reserve is very rich in archeological monuments, the reserve has more than 6,000 rock carvings, which depict primitive people, animals, battle-pieces, ritual dances, bullfights, boats with armed oarsmen, warriors with lances in their hands, camel caravans, pictures of sun and stars, on the average dating back to 5,000-40,000 years. It’s estimated that 300 of the planet’s estimated 700 mud volcanoes situated in Gobustan, Azerbaijan and the Caspian Sea.

There area few places on the earth where traces of ancient human history are so vividly apparent as at Qobustan. rocky formations here that once formed part of stone age cave dwellings, are richly inscribed with a wide range of fascinating petroglyphs.
Petroglyphs are the most important part of the prehistoric heritage of Qobustan. There are more than six thousand of them, and sometimes they look like complex ornaments that densely cover ancient rocks. With the help of an interactive installation, visitors can learn about the evolution of rock art in Qobustan and see some of the highlights.
